About Us

PGG Wrightson Seeds’ objective is to enhance the profitability of farmers and growers by providing them with proprietary grass and forage seeds that deliver high quality feed for improved animal performance and production.

PGG Wrightson Seeds has a strong emphasis on research and development, extensive experience in plant breeding and has developed management practises to ensure the best use of their cultivars.  To achieve this, PGG Wrightson Seeds has developed relationships with key primary research partners in New Zealand – AgResearch and Plant & Food Research, as well as numerous research organisations internationally.

PGG Wrightson Seeds are world leaders in delivering innovations to customers. The development of novel endophytes for ryegrass and tall fescue, in conjunction with AgResearch, has been a major technological breakthrough for the pastoral industry. The AR37 endophyte has provided greater ryegrass persistency through protection from five of New Zealand’s key pests and it was estimated in 2017 that the value to New Zealand of AR37 endophyte over the 20-year life of its patent was $3.658 billion.

Other examples of delivering forage innovations include the Cleancrop™ Brassica System which delivers a herbicide tolerant brassica with a herbicide spray and a management package to help farmers grow a high yielding, weed free brassica crop and Ecotain® environmental plantain – New Zealand’s only proven environmental plantain to reduce nitrogen leaching through four independent mechanisms.
